NCGS Awards and Scholarships
The NCGS has long extended formal recognition in granting scholarships to graduate students, honorary status to special Society members, and monetary awards to K-12 teachers.
Our awards are supported by member donations and bequests. Donations are welcomed at any time through our event registration page.
Scholarships
Every January, our Richard Chambers Memorial Scholarship program awards monetary support to graduate students for research projects related to Northern California geology. Applications are invited during the previous autumn. See this year’s awardees here and learn more about the program and previous recipients.
Teaching Awards
Our teaching awards program is under review.
We formerly granted the Teacher of the Year Award to local K-12 teachers for outstanding leadership in geoscience education. The winners received a cash award and were entered in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists national and Pacific Section contests for possible additional awards. See previous Teachers of the Year here.
We formerly granted Geoscience Teaching Awards to local teachers of earth or environmental sciences in grades K-8 and grades 9-12. See the awardees here.
Honorary Members
The NCGS occasionally honors selected members for their long and exemplary service to the Society. See the roster here.
