NCGS Awards and Scholarships

The NCGS has long extended formal recognition in granting scholarships to graduate students, honorary status to special Society members, and monetary awards to K-12 teachers.

Our awards are supported by member donations and bequests. Donations are welcomed at any time through our event registration page.

Scholarships

Every January, our Richard Chambers Memorial Scholarship program awards monetary support to graduate students for research projects related to Northern California geology. Applications are invited during the previous autumn. See this year’s awardees here and learn more about the program and previous recipients.

Teaching Awards

Our Teacher of the Year Award program is under review. This award has been granted to a local K-12 teacher who demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education. The winner would receive a cash award of $1000 and be entered in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists national and Pacific Section contests for possible additional awards.

The NCGS formerly sponsored a Geoscience Teaching Award to individuals for excellence in the teaching of earth or environmental sciences in Grades K-8 and Grades 9-12. See the awardees here.
